Jeep adds luxury to capability

The  Jeep Wrangler has always been the epitome of off-road, open-air adventure.

But without sacrificing its purpose, the Wrangler has been seeking to incorporate passenger comforts into its design.

"The ride of the Wrangler is more comfortable than ever, but it hasn't lost any of its off-road capabilities," said Dan Zarobsky, a sales consultant for Siemans in Bridgman. "And the Wrangler Unlimited is much larger with plenty of room for five."

Introduced in 2007, the Wrangler Unlimited is a four-door version of the regular two-door Wrangler. The Unlimited is wider and longer with triple the cargo area of the smaller Wrangler.

Both models come in three different trim levels, but they all feature a 202-horsepower, 3.8L V-6 paired with a six-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic with clutchless shifting.

The least expensive model, the two-door Wrangler X, starts at around $22,000. Equipped with four-wheel drive, removable full-framed doors, an easy folding softtop roof, anti-lock brakes, an electronic stability program, a hill start assist program that holds the vehicle in place for two seconds on an incline as well as a AM/FM CD player with auxiliary input jack, this basic  Jeep is ready for open-roading.

If you want more, the  Jeep Wrangler Sahara comes with tow hooks, fog lamps, air conditioning, premium stain-resistant adjustable seating, an upgraded stereo with satellite radio and a power convenience group that  adds power locks, power windows, and a remote keyless entry system.

"The Wrangler Sahara is also available in a two-wheel drive model, but in this area, I've never sold one," said Zarobsky.

The Wrangler Rubicon models are equipped for true off-road aficionados with heavy duty axles, electronic remote locking differentials, a low-ratio transfer case that delivers more torque, a sway bar disconnect system and high-pressure monotube shocks. The Rubicon models boast best-in-class approach and departure angles and best-in-class ground clearances.

There are quite a few options available for the Wrangler. The new Freedom Top is a three-piece hardtop roof that allows for easier handling and storage. Other packages and options include leather upholstery, chrome and black appearance packages, the Uconnect GPS system that links a 30 GB hard drive to a GPS navigation system and the Uconnectweb option that  adds WiFi capabilities.

But even these " luxuries" don't negate the typical Wrangler features such as removable carpet and drain plugs so you can hose down your vehicle after a particularly messy off-road experience.

"There are so many things you can do with your  Jeep," said Zarobsky. "And there's a great interactive Web site for  Jeep owners to explore at  jeep.com/experience."

The Siemans in Bridgman showroom at 8961 Red Arrow Highway in Bridgman is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
