With its sleek styling, responsive handling and comfortable interior, it's no wonder the  Altima is Nissan's best-selling  car.

Available as a four-door sedan or the recently added two-door sports coupe, the  Altima  puts a little pizazz into the " family  car" label.

"The  Altima has a very broad appeal," said Jon D'Amico, sales consultant for Tom Naquin Nissan in Elkhart. "Whether it's a customer's first  car or their tenth, there's not much to not like about the  Altima. It's a great  car."

Available with either a 175-horsepower, 2.5L four-cylinder engine or a 270-horsepower, 3.5L V6 engine -- named one of Ward's 10 best -- the  Altima is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or the Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) that offers a manual mode for clutchless shifting.

The four-door 2.5L S sedan is well-equipped with the CVT transmission, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, a dual exhaust system, power outside mirrors and power windows and door locks.

Other standard features include air conditioning with in-cabin filtration, remote keyless entry, cruise control, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a 60/40 split folding rear seat, an AM/FM CD audio system with auxiliary input jack and a full array of safety features that earned the  Altima a five-star rating for front and side impacts.

The two-door 2.5L S coupe, which is similarly equipped, features the six-speed manual transmission and Nissan's intelligent key that allows for easy entry and push-button ignition with a concealed key fob.

From there the choices multiply with packages and options that include stability control, power- adjustable heated, leather seating, dual zone climate control, premium Bose audio systems with XM satellite radio, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and a voice-activated DVD-based Navigation system.

Other options include a rearview monitor, power moonroof, steering wheel mounted controls, fog lights, xenon headlamps, and a host of upgraded wheel options.

"Nissan wants our customers to get what they want," said D'Amico. "And with the great gas mileage and fantastic incentives that are now available, there's no better time to get one."
